3.2 Design team process and products: student cases

In this section you will get some insight into the examples the five design teams came up with and how they were developed.

3.2.8 Fifth student case: Stranger Danger

Case Study

The design team Stranger Danger
presents their game Infinity Tag which is a game concept inviting strangers to play together in public spaces in order to transform strangers from potential threats to playfellows. This is achieved through working productively with the concept of ‘forced play’ and against Caillois’ definition of play as being voluntary and taking place within a magic circle (the thinker role). The game uses sonar sound for people to detect playfellows and engage them in a play of location-based infinity tag (the coder role). The game uses mobile phones as input controllers to play a sonar sound that beeps faster as a potential playfellow comes closer and the phone's camera to catch your opponent in a Pokemon-style gameplay (the maker role).
