Example of simple AR: Cervantes' biography

Although the design, development, and implementation of Augmented Reality applications require software development skills, some types of AR technologies are quite simple and are used in a variety of ways. A simple AR can also be integrated into photographs or paintings, also adding other types of resources such as audio or video, which facilitates the transmission of messages through channels other than the mere reading of a text.

For this purpose, it is necessary to use various tools or applications, different materials, and various supports and devices, which allow the integration and joint operation of the various elements (such as: video, audio, image and text) and tools that allow: a) the integration and reading of RA markers; b) the transformation of text to audio; c) the animation of static images; and d) the display of multimedia content.

For the realisation of the AR element that is presented below, the following were used:

  1. Portrait of Miguel de Cervantes (modified with transformation tools and image design).
  2. A brief biography of the author.
  3. MyHeritage's DeepStory tool (for author frame animation and text-to-speech transformation).
  4. The online tool ZapWorks (for the creation of the marker and the integration of the content as AR).
  5. The Zappar app, (for viewing the AR element created).

Next, in order to access the encrypted content in the image and solve the activity proposed below, we invite you to download the Zappar app on your mobile device and scan the image using said app. Listen to the audio and complete the activity placing the dates corresponding to each of the places mentioned in the audio.
