2.1. Digital Storytelling and Cultural Heritage.

2.1.4. Example of simple AR: Cervantes' biography

Although the design, development, and implementation of Augmented Reality applications require software development skills, some AR technologies are simple and used in various ways. A simple AR can also be integrated into photographs or paintings, adding other types of resources such as audio or video, which facilitates the transmission of messages through channels other than mere text reading.

For this purpose, it is necessary to use various tools or applications, different materials, and various supports and devices, which allow the integration and joint operation of the multiple elements (such as video, audio, image and text) and tools that will enable the integration and reading of AR markers; the transformation of text to audio; and the animation of static images; and d) the display of multimedia content. For the realisation of the AR element that is presented below, the following were used:

  1. Portrait of Miguel de Cervantes (modified with transformation tools and image design).
  2. A brief biography of the author.
  3. MyHeritage's DeepStory tool (for author frame animation and text-to-speech transformation).
  4. The online tool ZapWorks (for creating the marker and integrating the content as AR).
  5. The Zappar app (for viewing the AR element created).

Next, to access the encrypted content in the image and solve the activity proposed below, please download the Zappar app on your mobile device and scan the image using the indicated app. Listen to the audio and complete the activity by placing the dates corresponding to each place mentioned in the audio.
