• Introduction

    This course introduces #dariahTeach, its goals, and theoretical framework and serves as a practical guide to contribute to the #dariahTeach technical environment. The course is aimed towards those interested in creating courses for this platform and provides the essential theoretical background and practical information to create engaging #dariahTeach courses. It covers topics such as multimodality, peer review process, and multilingualism.

    The course is developed and structured as a model of a #dariahTeach course, incorporating the structure, multimodality, and types of assignments that are suggested for new educational material published on this platform.

    The course is divided into four units:

    Unit I: Introduction

    This unit provides an introduction to #dariahTeach. It will cover the rationale behind the platform, as well as its goals and strategy. This unit serves as the foundation for understanding the principles behind #dariahTeach that will enable contributors to create courses within the technical and theoretical framework of this platform.

    Unit II: Exploring the #dariahTeach Environment

    This unit prepares users to develop #dariahTeach courses within the philosophy of quality, consistency, and educational value. This unit also introduces the online learning environment Moodle, using Creative Commons Licences and elaborates on ETCS.

    Unit III: Developing a #dariahTeach Course

    This unit explains the formal procedures to contribute to the #dariahTeach online learning environment. It also explains how to create engaging #dariahTeach courses by elaborating on multimodality, activity design, syllabus development, and using H5P. This unit prepares the user with the strategic and theoretical knowledge that lays the foundation for the more practical instructions in Unit IV.

    Unit IV: Step-by-step Guide

    This unit is designed to take contributors through all the stages of developing engaging #dariahTeach courses that adhere to the theoretical and philosophical guidelines of the platform. It provides detailed practical instructions for using Moodle to create multimodal content, formatting and designing course elements, and building the course structure.

    By the end of this course, participants should:

    • Understand the theory and framework of #dariahTeach;

    • Understand best practices and methodology of how to create an online course;

    • Be familiar with the #dariahTeach environment, its possibilities and limitations;

    • Have the practical knowledge to develop and publish a #dariahTeach course.

    Course Developers

    Esther Aminata Kamara is a Dutch-Sierra Leonean writer and researcher and alumnus of the MA Media Studies: Digital Cultures at the University of Maastricht. Esther likes to explore the bridges and boundaries between West-African and western culture. Her dual nationality allows her to delve deeper into cross-cultural issues, including the impact and development of technology and access to cultural texts, digital tools and creative skills. She aims to use her writing and critical thinking skills to enrich the IGNITE curriculum even further.”

    Eliza Papaki
    is Research Assistant at the Centre for Digital Humanities at Maynooth University. She has been involved in the #dariahTeach project since 2015, mainly in regards to user requirements work and user testing. Her work has also touched upon issues of quality assurance, peer review methodology, design, and course development.

    Angelica Litsiou is the Audio Visual Research Assistant at the Centre for Digital Humanities at Maynooth University. She is responsible for scripting, producing, and editing audio and video components for the #dariahTeach platform.
